We’ve all been there before. Work is hectic, social calendar is full, house/apartment is a mess AND we’re supposed to fit a workout in? Sometimes a workout can fall to the bottom of your to-do list rather quickly. I know it’s been tough for me lately as each month seems to get busier and busier. That’s why I’m here to offer you a few tips on how to maximize your workout when you really only have 20 minutes or less.
1. Workout at home
This may seem obvious but if you really don’t have a lot of time, don’t worry about driving to the gym, just do your workout right at home. There are plenty of movements that can be done in the comfort of your own home, even if you live in a small apartment. Check out Fit Gifs for some movements you may not have thought of before or check out my previous post, Workout’s On the Go for some ideas!
2. Interval training
Interval training is a great way to get maximum work in with a short amount of time. Tabata interval training is the perfect example, if using 4 different movements, total workout time is 16 minutes. Tabata is :20 sec of work/:10 sec of rest; Repeat 8 times. Complete 8 rounds of one movement before moving onto the next. Your score is the lowest number of reps throughout the 8 rounds. As I mentioned before, there are plenty of movements to choose from which leads me to my next tip.
3. Choose simple movements
By this I simply mean, do movements which won’t require a lot of warm up time. If you only have 15-20 minutes to workout, you don’t want to waste a lot of time stretching and getting warm. Generally moves like burpees, air squats and sit ups are good to do since these are movements that we would encounter in every day life and don’t require a lot of “prep time”.
Overall, I feel like if working out is important to you, you’ll find the time to get it done, even if it is just a quick 10-20 minute workout. Even if have less than 10 minutes, quick sprints or jogs, or even a few minutes of burpees can always be done when in a pinch! Hopefully these tips help you make the most out of your time and get you moving!
