In San Francisco, I have the good fortune of trying out the latest and greatest startups, often before they expand to other parts of the country. When I first moved here a few years back, I discovered the joy of grocery delivery services such as Instacart, and quickly became spoiled with ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft. I found these services to provide superb customer service and save me time and money — without a catch!
Always looking for a new opportunity to take advantage of these new apps and hacks for saving time while still enjoying healthy meal options, I was turned on to Sprig meal delivery a few months back and have been an avid user ever since. As busy work days can interfere with opportunities to get out for lunch, meal delivery is a great option for when I don’t have a chance to plan ahead. I am currently following a very limited paleo and sugar-free diet (under doctor supervision) which can make finding a grab-and-go meal nearly impossible. The good news? Sprig has gluten-free, dairy-free and even paleo-friendly options that are tasty, conveniently delivered within less than 20 minutes, and can easily be ordered through 2-3 clicks.
HOW IT WORKS
You click the item you want to see the ingredients and once the quantity is selected, simply navigate to the checkout.
Credit card information is stored in the app so there is no cash exchange when your delivery arrives. Updates are shared via mobile and within minutes, your delivery will arrive to your designated address. The next time you open the app, you will be prompted to review your previous Sprig experience.
I have used the service 10-15 times over the past six months and have been impressed with the variety and quality of the meals and overall fantastic customer service. Lunches have included an array of yummy salads ranging from Mexican-inspired steak, guacamole and veggies, to a super food combo of kale, squash, cucumber and sunflower seeds. For the Sprig power user, a subscription service is available which covers the cost of delivery fees. I haven’t explored this option as I’m not sure I use it enough, but it sounds like a great idea for anyone who orders once or more per week.
Amazingly simple, delicious and healthy meals in a snap — I highly recommend checking out Sprig if you are in the SF area. I think the startup is setting a precedent for meal delivery services to provide access to convenient, fairly priced and allergen-friendly meals — something that we certainly need. For these reasons, I rate the service a 4/5 stars. I’d love to see an expanded menu of paleo and gluten-free options, and overall more variety in the choices offered.
