Happy Wednesday errrrbody! I can’t believe it’s October 14th already, this month is flying by!! As mentioned in previous posts, Candice and I have had a lot of big changes going on the past couple weeks. Besides the move and getting more recipes out to you guys (like these Pancetta Roasted Brussels Sprouts?! Uhh, YUM!) we’ve been working on the #whhpumpkinproject! Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter for all the up to date information!
So today I’m so excited to talk to you guys about Simple Squares! I stumbled upon these on Instagram and decided to reach out to the company. They were kind enough to send over some coupons for buying their bars in store!
Once I got these, I was off to the store to get my hands on some of these tasty squares! The store I bought mine at only had 4 different flavors but the company has a total of 8 different flavors. The thing I love most about these bars is how guilt free they are. The founder, Kimberly Crupi Dobbins, wanted to create an uncomplicated, healthy and great tasting snack. Mission accomplished if you ask me! Not only are these squares raw, organic, gluten free and paleo-friendly, they’re made with only FIVE ingredients! In a world full of over processed and zillion ingredient snacks, these bars are a refreshing change.
Coffee: This one is definitely my favorite! Even though the bars have almost all the same ingredients, the coffee beans in this one definitely set it apart. It’s the perfect amount of coffee flavor without being too strong.
Coconut: It was a tough call between this flavor and coffee. The coconut isn’t overwhelming, I actually would have liked more coconut flavor. The honey keeps it sweet but not too sweet like some bars can be when sweetened with dates.
Cinna-clove: This flavor is perfect to compliment the fall weather moving in! The addition of cinnamon and cloves gives this bar the perfect amount of spicy goodness. It would be great with a cup of chai tea!
Ginger: I’ll admit I was a little weary since I don’t typically like ginger but I still enjoyed this square. The sweetness of the honey balances out the ginger so it isn’t too overwhelming. However if you really like ginger, this might not be strong enough for you.
I tried these squares at different points as snacks to hold me over until my next meal. Since they all only vary by 1-2 ingredients, it’s easy to keep the nutritional value the same for every square. Each bar has 230 calories, 6g protein, 17g of fat and 16g of carbs. Since they have a good amount of fat, they are great at keeping you fuller for longer. I would definitely recommend these squares if you’re looking for a quick snack that won’t break the nutritional bank! To get your hands on these, check out their online store, the store finder or check your local Whole Foods or Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market!
