With busy schedules and plenty of commitments, it’s easy to forget how to make yourself a priority. This week, I challenge you to find an hour or two to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary. Whether it’s a massage, purchasing a new scented candle, or squeezing in a few chapters of your favorite book, you may be surprised at the calming effects of scheduling uninterrupted “me-time” in advance. Block off your calendar ahead of time and be sure to disconnect from technology or other distractions during the session. You’ll be thankful after!
As I can almost see spring approaching around the corner (which is not nearly soon enough), I decided to treat myself to a weekend of R&R to beat the cold winter weather and dark days. I ventured to the nearby holistic health center for a steam room / aromatherapy treatment (known to be helpful for dry skin, improving circulation, treating stress and anxiety, and detoxing the body). In the midst of the 21-day sugar detox, I thought it was appropriate to continue the “detox” trend and see how I felt. In addition, scheduling the session in advance reduced my usual stress throughout the week because I continued to remind myself of my upcoming spa day.
I found the experience to be rejuvenating. For the first time in a while, I was able to clear my mind and meditate during the thirty minute session,. in addition to doing my skin a huge favor! The lemon essential oil instantly allowed me to relax and removed any stress from my mind. The high temperature (approximately 100 degrees) of the steam room provided an incredible detoxifying effect which felt great. I highly recommend this for anyone who needs a winter pick-me-up or is looking for an alternative method for reducing stress and anxiety.
