As I started the Nutritional Therapy Consultant program earlier this year, I set out with the mission to learn more about my own health journey, as well as how to take the knowledge from the program and educate others. I’m excited to embark on this path with the hopes that I can inspire and motivate people to make the necessary changes to feel and look their best. At the end of the day, that’s what most of us really want, isn’t it?
For years I harbored the mindset that living healthy meant restriction when it comes to food and a “more is always better” attitude when it comes to exercise. Beyond that I didn’t know much else and had very little understanding of the body’s systems and the surprising/hidden reason behind much of what ails us.
Now, armed with knowledge about the foundations of health and nutrition and how to really dig deep beyond surface level symptoms to understand what’s going on in the body, I can confidently say my approach has changed drastically since those dark, unhealthy days. I look at food with freedom rather than restriction knowing that I understand how carbs, protein, fats, minerals, and vitamins make up a healthy diet and understanding how each of these plays an important and vital role in my health. I have the freedom of choice now that I know which foods are health promoting and nutrient dense and how to pick out a healthy fat from an unhealthy one. I have the freedom of knowing the basic ingredients/formula for an easy and healthy weeknight meal that is stress-free and doesn’t leave me panicked and running to the nearest place for takeout. With all of the information that I have learned (and continue to learn), I feel more free than I ever have when it comes to food and hope to share that with all of you as well.
