I’ll be the first to admit, as much as I love my newly discovered grain-free diet, I have a serious place in my heart for sweets. Several recipes in the Practical Paleo book offer relief to my sweet cravings (such as the amazing no sugar added almond butter cups), but I’ve been searching high and low for a high quality and affordable chocolate bar for a good hassle-free option. To indulge in the treat, I’ve decided on a few criteria before taste testing, including: gluten-free, low sugar, high percentage of pure cacao and hopefully sold from a respectable and socially responsible company.
The verdict? Sweet Riot hits the mark on all five selling points. My personal favorite, the 85% dark chocolate bar, is USDA organic, certified fair trade, gluten-free, vegan and rich in antioxidants. Oh, and did I mention it’s absolutely delicious?! Other flavors include Fabulous Flax, Kickin’ Cocount, Dark Chocolate with Crunch, and a sampler pack of all varieties. For anyone searching for holiday gifts for the health or chocolate enthusiast in your life, Sweet Riot sells gift sets and fan gear too. As we head into the weekend I suggest you indulge in this delightful treat if you’re looking to curb your sweet tooth.
As if I need more reasons to obsess over this company, directly from the website’s social mission page it reads:
First of all, we consider what products we are creating. Are they good for the world….are they healthy…are they natural and fairly traded? Is the sourcing ethical? We worked very hard to find a partner in South America with a strong track record of social responsibility and a commitment to fair trade. Plus, we searched for a product – cacao – which comes from the most healthy & magical fruit in the world. It is a slow not fast food and we’re proud of that.
Oh, and the company’s CEO Sarah Endline, facilitates the Twitter account. (Follow her @sweetriot.) I love the transparency! Sounds like overall Sweet Riot is on a delicious road to success. I have a lot of respect for their commitment to fair trade and quality products – it makes the chocolate taste that much sweeter.
